Saint Euphomia was of unwavering faith within the third century that helped ignite the movement of Christianity that remains today. With her steadfast faith and an endurance that opposed the forced worship of idols Euphomia held tight to the understanding that she could not be hurt by the things in the eternal. She was the youngest of all Christians captured and persecuted for her faith but her legacy is ageless.

Painted upon a background mimicking the patterned findings of the ancient wall frescos within the Hagia Euphemia, also known as the palace of Antiochus, the faded rich colors set the tone of one of the most cherished Saints of the Eastern Orthodox Church. With Euphemia standing next to two lions the miraculous nature of divine protection is ever inspiring. The rug unto what Euphomia stands is in the pattern in which a Chalcedon rug of the third century would have resembled. Euphomia’s dress would also have been typical for the region during this time as well as her standing within society.

Often painted in iconography as a young girl with her head covered Euphomia’s stature displays confidence and fortitude against the blinding ways of forced patriotic allegiances through state issued worship.
